Hand

The cards held in a card game by a given player or the house at any time.

Horse racing

Making or accepting a bet on the outcome of a future horse race based on factors such as the speed and agility of the field. The two main types of horse races include flat racing (the Derby, the Arc and the Breeders’ Cup) and jump racing (the Grand National).

House edge

The advantage the house (eg a casino) has over people in terms of the percentage that they keep from each game. It is the practice of paying winnings at less than true odds in order for the house to take in more money than it gives out to stay in business.
